Digital Construction – a government initiative
Digital Construction is a Danish government initiative meaning that governmental owners should make a number of demands related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These demands aim to ensure increased and improved knowledge-sharing between the parties of the construction sector.
On governemental construction projects, the construction industry should use ICT to communicate in the following areas:
- Electronic tendering
- Project web
- Building Information Model
- Electronic hand-over
The specific demands appear in the government declaration: “Bekendtgørelse om krav til anvendelse af Informations- og Kommunikationsteknologi i byggeri” and the belonging instruction guide.

The Implementation Network for Digital Construction
The Implementation Network for Digital Construction is in charge of information about and implementation of Digital Construction in the construction industry and its companies.
The Implementation Network includes representatives from:
- The Danish Construction Association
- Danish Association of Construction Clients
- The Danish Association of Architectural Firms
- Danish Association of Consulting Engineers
- TEKNIQ
- The Building, Construction and Wood Workers Cartel
- Danish Building Materials Federation
New knowledge for the construction industry
From year 2008 until 2010 the Implementation Network will manage the development and research project ‘New Knowledge for the Construction Industry’.
The purpose of the project is to create practical knowledge such as case examples and guidelines on how to work with the principles of Digital Construction.
The project, New Knowledge for the Construction Industry, is one of "Vækstforum Hovedstaden's" prioritized initiatives within the industrial development of The Capital Region of Denmark. The project is funded by The European Regional Development Fund, The Capital Region of Denmark, Realdania and The Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority.
